Description
George Curzon was arguably India's most aspiring viceroy, and his intention to reform and streamline the administration of India at the turn of the 20th century was achieved in large measure, both aided and hindered by a host of officials and administrators in India and in England. Royal Asiatic Society fellow Dhara Anjaria looks at Curzon's relationships with the different departments of the British Government of India and examines two basic, intersecting themes that defined the course of his viceroyalty: executive power and the checks upon it. She also considers Curzon's surprisingly successful collaboration with his longest-serving governor and locum, Lord Ampthill.
