Description
In October 2009, a team of experts came to an extraordinary conclusion: a portrait of a young woman, thought to have been created in the early 19th century, was in fact a previously unknown work by Leonardo da Vinci. Team leader Martin Kemp and multi-spectral photographic analyst Pascal Cotte here describe the detailed historical research and the forensic technical analysis that led them to conclude that this was an authentic drawing by Leonardo, executed in ink and colored chalks on vellum. Kemp also reveals the tragic story of the girl who most likely inspired the drawing, the illegitimate daughter of Milanese duke Ludovico Sforza, Bianca, who was married at 13 and died within the year.
