Description
It is 1936, and Lord Peter Wimsey has returned from his honeymoon to set up house with his cherished new wife, mystery novelist Harriet Vane. As they become part of fashionable London society they encounter the glamorous socialite Rosamund Harwell and her wealthy impresario husband Laurence. But all too soon, the Wimseys are comforting a bereft Laurence; his beautiful wife is dead. In 1936 Dorothy L. Sayers began writing Thrones, Dominations, her 12th Lord Peter Wimsey novel, then set it aside. When a fragment was re-discovered in her agent's safe, six decades later, the trustees of the Sayers estate asked Booker Prize finalist Jill Paton Walsh to complete it. "It is impossible to tell where Dorothy L. Sayers ends and Jill Paton Walsh begins," noted Ruth Rendell in London's Sunday Times. "It is simply like reading another Sayers novel.... All Sayers's gift for lyrical description in here, and her passion for resonant prose." Paton Walsh has since continued the adventures of the well-to-do sleuth, giving us entirely new works from the golden age of mystery writing.

"Could this be the best book Dorothy L. Sayers never wrote? [Jill Paton Walsh] has done a splendid job—certain to please the legions of Sayers loyalists as well as readers new to the Wimsey canon.... Lord Peter has been made much more human and interesting by marriage ... and the story is full of twists and connivance."—Chicago Tribune
