Description
The superior ensemble work by the actresses playing three sisters paralyzed by family secrets in this award-winning Canadian film from 2002 is augmented by an early, charming appearance by Ellen Page. In the midst of struggling to overcome her self-destructive behavior, the youngest sister returns home from Montreal primed to confront the past in her Cape Breton community, which is determined to avoid it. Her quest sets in motion a chain of events that allows the sisters to reconnect with the world and with each other.

"Few recent films have shown [its] wisdom and veracity."—Chicago Tribune

"Every element of this impressive production is completely integrated and beautifully performed."—Atom Egoyan

"When Marion Bridge, a small, exquisitely acted Canadian film, is observing the psychological tensions of three grown-up sisters attending their dying mother in a small Nova Scotia town, it uncovers a complexity and depth of feeling rarely glimpsed in a family drama. It's all in the details, as they say. And Marion Bridge, adapted by the director Wiebke von Carolsfeld from a play by Daniel MacIvor, takes the raw ingredients of soap opera—the spilling of family secrets and the opening of old wounds as a parent slips away—and spins them into something truthful and quietly compelling."—New York Times
