A past president of the American Quilt Study Group, Bettina Havig here takes quilters across the Atlantic to explore the rich quilting heritage of the British Isles. Historic quilts—most in the medallion style surrounded by frames (the British term for borders)—inspire the eight quilts here, which reflect Havig's enthusiasm for hand-quilting. The ninth project is for a Victorian etui, a folding portable sewing kit made by ladies as well as by soldiers and seamen in the 19th century. Along with color diagrams, quilt photos, and patterns, the book is also illustrated with Havig's photos of British quilts and snapshots of her travels.
