"A drawing is simply a line going for a walk," Swiss-born artist Paul Klee famously noted. As one of the great avant-garde artists of the 20th century, Klee did not readily fit into a particular artistic category, but was swept along with the changing moods and philosophies of the time. Klee's exploration and analysis of color theory and tone—which he explained in several influential books—arguably may have left a greater legacy than his artworks. Measuring just 6 × 6 inches, this compact yet attractive book is illustrated with 82 color reproductions of works spanning Klee's lifetime, from such early and exuberant paintings as Cat with Ginger Boots Licking Itself (1905) to late, somber, yet exquisitely subtle images like The Traveling Circus, Death and Fire, and his last, untitled still life, all from 1940.
