The Lebanese-American poet and novelist Kahlil Gibran and the Palestinian-Egyptian essayist May Ziadah knew one another solely from the letters they exchanged, and from a deep admiration for each other's work. Yet their correspondence endured from 1914 to Gibran's death in 1931, and the love that grew between them—as hesitant and elliptically expressed as it was—was profound for them both, and unlike any other affection found in Gibran's letters. This collection, translated and edited by Gibran's biographer Suheil Bushrui and Lebanese novelist Salma Haffar al-Kuzbari, presents 37 letters to May from Gibran, with annotations and a biographical introduction.
