Although W.A. Mozart wasn't always in vogue in Vienna, he enjoyed a loyal following in Prague, and the city's name would remain forever attached to the Symphony no. 38, which Mozart debuted there in 1787. On this 2000 recording, the piece receives a sprightly performance by the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, which is likewise excellent on the Piano Concerto no. 25 in C Major. The 2007 Midem Classical Award winner for Artist of the Year and a Diapason d'Or winner for past recordings of Mozart's music, Christian Zacharias is soloist here and he conducts from the keyboard. Also included is the Recitative and Rondo for soprano, obbligato piano, and orchestra, K. 505, which showcases the marvelous voice of Argentina's Bernarda Fink. Given that all three of these masterworks were completed in less than a month, this disc provides a fascinating glimpse of Mozart's unparalleled creativity and energy.
