It's time to get ready and go to the park, but Alfie the alligator is still in his pajamas, and clearly has more important things on his mind than getting dressed—like handstands, for example: "Watch me! Almost ... one more time!" "How about you get dressed and then you show me your handstand?" suggests his ever-patient mum, but every bit of clothing becomes a toy or costume to the exuberant youngster, right up to the moment he declares himself ready to go ("Alfie! You don't need your umbrella. You need your clothes!"). They do finally make it to the park—though Alfie shows that he needed his umbrella more than his clothes after all. Australian artist Anna Walker is known for her Alfie Alligator tales for prereaders, inspired by her youngest son. That's a lot of As, to which we'll add one more, adorable.
