When works for unaccompanied violin are mentioned, J.S. Bach's suites are with good reason the first to come to mind; from that monumental series, Stanislav Pronin performs the Chaconne with passion and energy rarely encountered in performances of this piece. The Moscow-based prodigy also plays Nathan Milstein's show-stopping Paganiniana, Alfred Schnittke's intense A Paganini, and Eugéne YsaŸe's Sonata no. 3 in D Minor, which despite being entitled "Ballade" still includes plenty of impressive violin pyrotechnics. On a hauntingly beautiful performance of Sergei Prokofiev's Sonata for Two Violins in C Major, Pronin fully realizes his own vision for the piece by recording both violin parts himself.
