"I know an old lady who swallowed a pie, a Thanksgiving pie, which was really too dry. Perhaps she'll die." And with that the feast begins in this hilarious holiday take on the classic children's song about spiders and flies and an old lady with an out-of-control appetite. After washing down the dry pie with some cider ("that rumbled and mumbled and grumbled inside her"), she swallows a whole squash, all of the salad, and the entire turkey. Her future looks murky, after that turkey, but she doesn't stop there, and the frenetic ink and watercolor cartoons here perfectly capture the loopy energy in this sing-aloud book for readers 4 to 8.

"[The] watercolor illustrations are absolutely delightful. Children will find lots to examine and enjoy in these expressive pictures, particularly the repeated appearances of the woman's fluffy white cat."—School Library Journal
