Nineteen years ago, Delhi Laine's two-year-old daughter disappeared seemingly drowned in the picturesque English park in which she had been playing. But in this third outing (after An Illustrated Death), a mysterious letter arrives containing the words "Your daughter did not drown," and the Laine family is torn between fighting for the past and protecting the future. A bookseller-turned-amateur detective, Delhi is caught in the middle, and as she seeks her daughter, she will have to weigh the cost for all whom she holds dear.
