X-raying a frog and hospitalizing a walrus are all in a day's work for Scottish veterinarian Romain Pizzi. Travelling from the rainforests of Sierra Leone to the jungles of Borneo, Pizzi has caught, diagnosed, treated, and then released some of the world's most endangered wild animals. In this memoir, Pizzi recalls his many interesting patients, explaining the challenges of keyhole surgery in Sumatran orangutans, anaesthetizing a bear with a bicycle pump, and operating on a vulture using an old metal spoon.
