Only a very few rock bands have had the longevity, success, and drama of the Doobie Brothers. Forging a distinct sound in the competitive 1960s California scene, the band established itself quickly, but just seven year later, singer Tom Johnston became ill and had to leave. Guitarist Pat Simmons hired Michael McDonald to step in and keep the band going, beginning a new phase in the band's career. Here Johnston and Simmons look back on these times of trouble and prosperity, and comment on their joyful 1987 reunion.
