Only the author of Shakespeare for Squirrels could dream up this zany caper in postwar San Francisco. Bartender Sammy "Two Toes" and the rest of the Cookie's Coffee Irregulars—the ragtag hustlers last seen in Noir—are trying to open a driving school, shanghai an abusive Swedish stevedore, and get Madam Mable and her working girls to a Christmas party at the State Hospital without alerting the overzealous SFPD vice squad. Meanwhile Sammy's girl Stilton and her steelworker gal pals are using their wartime shipbuilding skills on a secret project that has the Men in Black very interested, even as Eddie "Moo Shoes" Shu sets out to find a stolen statue of a Chinese Rain Dragon, which if summoned could call down his wrath on all of Fog City. And oh yeah, someone is murdering the city's drag kings; club owner Jimmy Vasco is sure she's next on the list, and she wants Sammy to find the killer.
