The Roosevelts: An Intimate History

The co-creators of such landmark PBS series and illustrated histories as The Civil War, Baseball, and Jazz, Ken Burns and Geoffrey Ward have now given us The Roosevelts, a remarkable portrait of America's most influential political family. Between them, Theodore and Franklin would occupy the White House for 19 of the first 45 years of the 20th century. And more so than the family name, it was Eleanor—Theodore's orphaned niece and Franklin's distant cousin, as well as his wife—who would unite the Roosevelt legacy and carry it on into the postwar era.

The Roosevelts: 1945–1962

Determined to see the war through to victory despite his failing health, Franklin Roosevelt wins a fourth term in office and begins planning for a peaceful postwar world. After his death in 1945, Eleanor proves to be a shrewd politician and a skilled negotiator in her own right, as well as a champion of civil rights, civil liberties, and the United Nations, becoming the "First Lady of the World."
