Wrongly portrayed as an abstract discipline, philosophy is a forum of human thoughts and ideas that have always affected how we live. Taking a look at philosophers' books can shed new light on this discipline, and the dozens of color illustrations here include images of an 11th-century copy of Augustine's Confessions, an illuminated page from Maimonides's Mishnah Torah, a beautifully illustrated edition of The Tale of Genji, and a modernist two-volume set of De Beauvoir's The Second Sex. Other featured authors include Sappho, Plato, Marcus Aurelius, Karl Marx, Virginia Woolf, Hannah Arendt, and Audre Lorde.
