On June 8, 1924, George Mallory and Sandy Irvine set out to climb Everest, and they were last seen 800 feet shy of the topt. Could they have succeeded decades before Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay? Did the frozen film in Irvine's camera have a photograph of the duo on the summit before they disappeared, never to be seen again? Determined to find the camera, Mark Synnott made his own ascent up the infamous North Face in 2011, and as he recounts here, he faced perils of his own.
