In World War II Brussels, 12-year-old street orphan Helene survives by living as a boy and selling copies of the country's most popular newspaper, Le Soir, now turned into Nazi propaganda. Helene befriends journalist Marc Aubrion, who draws her into a secret network of underground newspapers. The Nazis track down Aubrion's team and gives them an impossible choice: write for the Germans, or be killed. While pretending to do their bidding, Aubrion publishes a sly spoof of Le Soir that will put all of their lives on the line.
