In 1968, Vashti Bunyan left London for the road with only a horse, wagon, dog, guitar, and her then-partner. They traveled to the Outer Hebrides, sleeping in the woods, fighting freezing winters, and navigating homelessness. It was on this trip that Bunyan wrote the songs that became her 1970s album Just Another Diamond Day. It would be another 30 years before the recordings are rediscovered, leading to Bunyan's second chance at the musical life. Wayward is one of the great on-the-road hippie memoirs.
