Commissioned by sultan Murad III in 1579, the History of Sultan Suleyman is a magnificent illustrated manuscript created to honor the life of his grandfather, the greatest ruler of the Ottoman Empire. Presented with envelopes in a paper folio, these ten notecards reproduce the right-hand and left-hand panels (five of each) of the superb two-page painting that depicts Suleyman's funeral procession.
