In January 2003 British sculptor Andy Goldsworthy was invited to create a work of art for the Washington, D.C.'s National Gallery of Art. This catalogue traces the development of Goldsworthy's project, and includes preparatory drawings and related works, plus journal entries and photographs of the artist and his team at work. Comments by the artist and more than 300 images document the astonishing arches, cairns, walls, and other site-specific structures Goldsworthy has constructed worldwide since 1984. Several introductory essays profile this intriguing British artist, who exclusively uses natural materials for his works.
