Many fine writers appeared in the pages of The Strand, but more than 70 years after its final issue, the magazine is best known for its association with Arthur Conan Doyle. Examining this long and productive partnership, this study considers Doyle's 300 publications, including not only many of the Sherlock Holmes tales but also poetry, the Professor Challenger stories, articles on spiritualism and fairies, and his coverage of the major battles of World War I. Considering Doyle's shifting reputation during his lifetime, Mike Ashley also assesses how his contributions to The Strand fit into his overall output as an author.
