A fine introduction to the self-described "roistering, drunken and doomed poet" of the mid 20th century, this Dylan Thomas anthology revels in his musical sense of language. It opens with such poems as "In the Beginning": "In the beginning was the three-pointed star, / One smile of light across the empty face; / One bough of bone across the rooting air, / The substance forked that marrowed the first sun; / And, burning cophers on the round of space, / Heaven and hell mixed as they spun." Here too is his lyrical prose, including the story collection Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog; tales for radio like A Child's Christmas in Wales; and the verse drama Under Milk Wood.
