Stretching the boundaries of the genre, Camille Saint-Saens's Symphony No. 3 makes ingenious use of organ, played here by Frederick Minger. Sergiu Comissiona is on the podium, backed by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, which he transformed into a world-class ensemble. The maestro switches to the Houston Symphony Orchestra for Cesar Franck's Symphony in D minor, which—with only three movements, and making notable use of the English horn—is a subtly revolutionary work as well.
