The American shape-note tradition has produced an incomparable treasury of music comprised of strong harmonies rooted in the folk tradition and imbued with the spirit of faith and fellowship. Here Barry and Shelley Phillips perform their arrangements of 21 tunes from The Sacred Harp, one of the most beloved of the "songsters," as shape-note collections were called. With exquisite combinations of instruments, they perform selections that range from "New Britain (Amazing Grace)" to the lesser known treasures "Parting Friends," "Saints Delight," "Eternal Day/Hebrew Children," "Sweet Prospect/My Home," "David's Lamentation/Rose of Sharon," and "Evening Shade/Ecstasy."
