While her mother is hospitalized, adolescent Elizabeth Lorimer (Mandy Miller) moves in with her kindly Uncle Henry (Eric Portman) and her Aunt Evelyn (Phyllis Calvert), who hates children, in this 1956 tearjerker. That would be enough for Elizabeth to deal with, but then her father (Stanley Baker)—who is a fugitive from justice—comes to see her, and Elizabeth must vow to never reveal his whereabouts. When the moment of reckoning comes, though, will Elizabeth tell the truth, or will she be loyal to her father? An uncredited Maggie Smith makes a fleeting appearance as a party guest in her first film.
