French illustrator Agnès Ernoult gives us an angular, antic, unforgettable wolf in her hilarious illustrations for this contemporary edition of the classic fairy tale, for readers and listeners up to 7. And Little Red may look like innocence and sunshine, but she's clearly someone who's used to getting her way. Together these two hold down a tale full of winking humor (the wolf first tries getting into Grandma's cottage with the old "Grandma, Grandma, let me come in" trick, to which the lady replies, "Not by the hair on my chinny chin chin"), and Ernoult sprinkles each scene with a Greek chorus of pets, bugs, and forest creatures observing the would-be predations.
