"The bears all play a noisy song. / They don't care if the notes are wrong." Four young bears are excited to find musical instruments; Yellow likes the bells, Floppy beats a shiny red drum, Calico plays a shiny trumpet, and Fuzzy enjoys the crash and bang of the cymbals. In this story for prereaders by the author of One Frog Sang, the band remembers that Big Bear is sleeping, or at least he had been. Waking up, he's sure that what he hears isn't music at all, but instead of getting upset, he picks up a ladle and steps in as conductor, ready to teach the little bears how music should be made. In his acrylic paintings, David Walker portrays the bear band as sweet-tempered toddlers, and his images convey the joy of making music—or a racket—all your own.
